FAQ

Getting Started

What is CryptoMiner World?
CryptoMiner World (CMW) is a decentralized game where players can mine for treasure to collect and trade with others on the Ethereum blockchain.
What do I need to play CryptoMiner World?
  • A web browser with the MetaMask plugin installed. If on mobile, see below.
  • Ether (ETH) in your wallet
What is MetaMask?
A browser extension that easily allows you to interact with the Ethereum blockchain. You will use it to make purchases, sign in, and store your in-game items. Follow our easy install guide to set everything up.
How to Install MetaMask
What is Ether (ETH)?
Ether is a digital currency that powers the Ethereum network, which is what CryptoMiner World runs on. Ether acts like any other currency — its value fluctuates with the market.

You need to convert your currency (e.g. USD, CAD, GBP) into Ether to pay for things — such as Geodes — on the Ethereum network.
Can I play on Mobile?
Android and iOS integration is still in development, but if this is your preferred or only method of interaction these apps should allow for interacting and storing your CryptoMiner World assets:
  • Coinbase Wallet, previously Toshi (iOS and Android)
    Android link
    Get Coinbase Wallet on Android
    iOS link
    Get Coinbase Wallet on iOS
  • Cipher (iOS and Android)
  • Trust (iOS and Android)
  • Firefox with MetaMask Add-On (Android)
Your experience may vary so we still recommend playing on a desktop or laptop browser.
What is Gas?
Gas is the term used to describe the cost of powering a transaction or contract on the Ethereum blockchain.

As the blockchain is decentralized, each transaction is transmitted through multiple computers to confirm, rather than a central server. This service costs a small amount of money to use, which is represented by a gas fee. The gas price you specify is used by the miners to rank transactions for inclusion in the blockchain which may determine the speed of the transaction.

The default gas price in MetaMask will usually work, but if you want more control or to have the latest up to date prices, check the Ether Gas Station. Usually adding 1-2 Gwei onto your transaction will make the transaction go faster.
Does this game make my computer mine for cryptocurrencies? I've heard news stories about viruses that do that!

No, this will not do any of that. This is a game about having your little Gem buddies mine the good old fashioned way, digging a hole in the ground! Think MineCraft, not all of that complicated GPU mining stuff that uses all that electricity and kills the life of your hardware. Although, our goal was to gamify that whole GPU mining concept. Hence the game’s name. You will gain cryptocurrencies overtime, just like traditional mining. But in this game it is much more fun! Your Gems mine up items that can either help you mine faster, or can be sold on the market for ETH. Your Gems mine regardless if your computer is on or off, and you can play on mobile, things that traditional cryptomining can not do.

About the Game

What is an Idle Game?
This simply means that gameplay can progress without user input. Certain actions, such as mining a plot of land, take time to perform, but require no user input aside from the initial action. Items are collected over time to eventually be added to the user’s wallet.
What are collectibles?
Collectibles in CryptoMiner World act the same as tangible objects in the real world. Game items are virtually represented as tokens which have unique characteristics that allow them to be traded with others. Just like having a rare baseball card, game assets can take on this same role. The market determines the value of these assets and prices may rise and fall over time. Game assets are also owned by players, not the game company. This means that when someone acquires any in-game item, it goes into their wallet for them to do with as they please. This ownership is a distinguishing feature for many DApps.
What is the Market?
The market is the central hub for trading your in-game CryptoMiner World assets. Players may sell all in-game items from Gems to Artifacts, Gold, Silver, Plots of Land, and much more! 4% of each sale goes to the Devs to help fund development. 1% goes to fill the Gemstone Chests, see "What is this talk of ETH in Chests!?!?" for more info on Gemstone Chests.
What is the Plot of Land page?
The Plot of Land page is where you will be able to get your Plots of Land. These Plots are what your Gems need to Mine, and find you all the sweet loot!
When will _____ be released?
We are constantly working hard on getting out all of the components to the game. There are no hard dates at this time, but for more up to date information on development, please visit our discord at: https://discord.gg/CbxG28B
What do these words/terms mean?
  • DApp - Decentralized Application. An application that is run by many users on a decentralized network with trustless protocols. They are designed to avoid any single point of failure. They typically have tokens to reward users for providing computing power.

  • ERC20 Token - ERC20 is a technical standard used for smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain for implementing tokens. ERC stands for Ethereum Request for Comment, and 20 is the number that was assigned to this request. The clear majority of tokens issued on the Ethereum blockchain are ERC20 compliant.
ERC20 defines a common list of rules for Ethereum tokens to follow within the larger Ethereum ecosystem, allowing developers to accurately predict interaction between tokens. These rules include how the tokens are transferred between addresses and how data within each token is accessed. In CryptoMiner World, Gold and Silver will be represented with ERC-20 tokens.

  • ERC-721 Token - ERC-721 is a free, open standard that describes how to build non-fungible or unique tokens on the Ethereum blockchain. While most tokens are fungible (every token is the same as every other token), ERC-721 tokens are all unique. Think of them like rare, one-of-a-kind collectibles. All items in CryptoMiner World, except gold and silver, will be represented as ERC-721s

  • Non-fungible - This is a term to represents something unique; non-fungible tokens are thus not interchangeable. This is in contrast to standard cryptocurrencies, and many network or utility tokens that are fungible in nature.

  • Smart Contract - These are the rules that govern how systems work within the Ethereum ecosystem. The best way to describe smart contracts is to compare the technology to a vending machine. Ordinarily, you would go to a lawyer or a notary, pay them, and wait while you get the document. With smart contracts, you simply drop a bitcoin into the vending machine (i.e. a ledger), and the transaction, document or item desired drops into your account. More so, smart contracts not only define the rules and penalties around an agreement in the same way that a traditional contract does, but also automatically enforce those obligations. Like with a vending machine, human interaction is unnecessary as the agreement, money for goods, is known and automatically provided.
Can I view my token in MetaMask?
Yes, it is possible to view tokens with MetaMask.

1. In the MetaMask drop down, there are 2 tabs, "Sent" and "Tokens" - Go to the Tokens tab

2. Click "Add Token" and fill in the contract address.
Our Gem contract address is:
0xeae9d154da7a1cd05076db1b83233f3213a95e4f
The token symbol should automatically fill in with GEM
Set the decimals of precision to 0.

3. Click "Add"

You should now see the number of Gems you have.

This will only show you the number of Gems you own within your MetaMask wallet.

The best method for viewing your tokens is still to go to the "My Workshop" page within the game:

That will provide far more detail about your individual ERC-721 tokens. Plus, you can stare at some pretty nifty art of your gems!

About Gems

What is Resting Energy?
Resting Energy is a catch up mechanic. Only Gems, Grade A, AA, or AAA can accumulate Resting Energy. It works by allowing your gem to slowly gather mining time. When you use a Gem’s Resting Energy it will instantly mine all land equal to what would be mined over that time. For example, 1 obsidian block takes a Grade A Gem less than 20 hours to mine it. If that Gem had 20 hours of Resting Energy saved up, that Gem would instantly mine that obsidian block.

One of our main reasons for creating this system was to allow all of our Founder’s Geode buyers to rack up a lot of Resting Energy while we worked on finishing the game!
How much silver does it take to increase a Gem’s level (Age)?
Silver is used to increase your Gem’s age. This is necessary if you want to keep mining farther down in a plot of land because each tier of soil can only be mined by the appropriate age Gem.
Example: to mine Limestone (tier 3 land) you’ll need at least a Child (Age 3) Gem.

Silver is found while mining, from the market and from special Geode sales.

How much gold does it take to increase a Gem’s Grade?
Gold is used to increase your Gem’s Grade, aka the speed at which the Gem mines. This is useful to mine faster through plots of land. Gold is not a substitute for Silver. A Grade AAA  Baby Gem will only be able to mine through dirt. (But really fast!)

Gold is found while mining, from the market and from special Geode sales.

Please note, in general, Gold is much much rarer than Silver

Please explain the Gem Workshop Info
1 - While the images of the Gems are awesome, cute, funny, captivating, inspiring (Sorry their artist is writing this)  they are informative as well! In fact, #3, #4 and some of #2 can be known from the Gem's picture alone. A Gem's type and level are expressed in the Gem, and the Gem's Grade is displayed by the Gem's case material.
2 - Gem's Type and ID number
3 - Gem's Grade (D, C, B, A, AA, AAA)
4 - Gem's Level (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
5 - Mining Rate Bonus (MRB): This shows exactly how much faster this Gem mines compared to the base mining rate. Add this percentage to the base rate of 100%. So a Grade D with a MRB of 0% is the same as the base rate(0%+100%=100%). A MRB of 200% is 3 times the base rate (200%+100%=300%).
6- If your Gem is Grade A, AA, or AAA you will see this. It is the Gem's Resting Energy Amount (REA). Here is how it is read: Days - Hours - Minutes.
What the heck are REA and MRB?
You will see REA and MRB in the Sort/Filter areas in the Gem Market, and the Gem Workshop.
REA - Resting Energy Amount. This allows you to sort Gems by how much Resting Energy they have saved up! (See "What is Resting Energy?" in this section to learn what it is.
MRB - Mining Rate Bonus. This shows exactly how much faster this Gem mines compared to the base mining rate Add this percentage to the base rate of 100% So a Grade D with a MRB of 0% is the same as the base rate(0%+100%=100%). a MRB of 200% is 3 times the base rate (200%+100%=300%). If that confused you more than helped you, then just remember this, BIGGER IS BETTER!
In the Gem workshop you can also sort by when the Gems were Acquired. By default the Workshop will show you your newly acquired Gems first!
The rest should be pretty self explanatory I think.

About Plots of Land & Mining

What’s in each plot of land?
Every plot of land is broken into blocks with exactly 100 blocks in each land plot. Each of these blocks will be randomly given a land type based on the odds in this probability table:

Land Tier

35%
2
Clay/Ice**
30%
3

Land tiers will always be arranged within the plot of land in the same order with Tier 1 (Dirt/Snow) at the top and Tier 5 (Obsidian) at the bottom.

Once purchased, a player may view the entire plot of land they bought before mining it. This will let them know the distribution of tiers within that land plot.

*Please note - These Odds are only the average as land will be randomly generated.

**Also note - These odds listed are for typical plots of land. Founder's plots located in Antarctica will only consist of Snow and Ice with roughly a 35/65 distribution of snow to ice.
How long does it take to mine land?
Every block of land may take a different amount of time to mine through depending on its tier. A single Dirt block will take a Gem no longer than one and a half hours to get through while a single Obsidian block could take up to 6 days to finish.

Mining time depends heavily on your Gem's Grade. The values listed above are for the lowest Grade C Gem.
What is the average time to mine a whole stack?
Gems may only mine land tiers based on their Age. Baby Gems can only mine dirt, Toddlers can mine dirt and clay, etc. The following times are based on full grown adult Gems that can mine through all tiers of land. Please note that Age does not affect mining speed, only a Gem's Grade and the land type impact mining speed.

*These times are based on the average land distribution. Due to land blocks being randomized, mining times will vary greatly.
Please explain the Plot info in the Plot Workshop
1 - Shows the current status of the Plot. (New Plot, Mining, No Gem, Stuck, Processing, Getting Ready, Going Home)
2 - Shows the progress of the Plot, when a Gem is mining it will display how long the Gem can mine for, either before it finishes mining or gets stuck because its level is too low. When a Gem is not mining it will show how many blocks have been mined in this plot.
3 - Shows the Gem that is currently mining the Plot. The background color is an indication of what Grade the Gem is. Its placement shows its current position within the Plot.
4 - You can see the whole composition of the Plot at a glance, quickly letting you know how much dirt, clay, etc there is. This helps to inform you as to which Gem you should mine it with.
5 - The red marker shows you how deep the current Gem can mine. This is dependent on the level of the Gem. This Gem is level 3, as you can see it can dig no deeper than tier 3 blocks of Land.
6 - This button at the bottom is a quick action button. It changes based on the status of the Plot. (Start, Stop, Upgrade)
Please explain the info when selecting a Gem to Mine
1 - If your Gem is Grade A, AA, or AAA you will see this. It is the Gem's Resting Energy Amount (REA). Here is how it is read: Days - Hours - Minutes.
2 - Gem's ID number
3 - Image of your Gem. It gives you the same info that is in #4, #5, and #6
4 - Gem's Grade (D, C, B, A, AA, AAA)
5 - Gem's Level (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
6 - First 3 letters of  the Gem's type/color (Ame = Amethyst)
7 - Mining Rate Bonus (MRB): This shows exactly how much faster this Gem mines compared to the base mining rate. Add this percentage to the base rate of 100%. So a Grade D with a MRB of 0% is the same as the base rate(0%+100%=100%). A MRB of 200% is 3 times the base rate (200%+100%=300%).
What are Countries? What is the best one to buy my Plots of Land in?
Countries were designed for people that believed in the game and wanted to take on some of the risk of development for the potential of greater returns if the game reached launched and successful. Everytime a Plot of Land is bought, the Country owner, in which that plot was bought gets 10% of the sale. This is money that would have gone to the company to fund development. Country owner's supplied the ETH to fund development many months ago, so now that the game is released, they get rewarded for that.

Countries have zero influence in the game. There is no "best" one to buy your Plots in. Plots a created the exact same, regardless of which Country they are in. Country owners have no control, or ownership of the Plots of Land inside the country, they just get a percentage of the sale. We could have the entire game run without any mention of the Countries, and nothing would change. But it is fun to have them so we mention them!

About Loot

What kind of treasures can I mine?
Silver, Gold, Gems, Artifacts, and Keys that can open up Chests, including the 2,000 ETH World Chest!!! We also plan on hiding even more surprises in the world.

Everything you find and even the land plots themselves can be sold in the market. So get ready to hunt for treasures!
How rare are Silver and Gold?
Silver and Gold can be found in several ways. While mining, each block of land will have a specific drop rate depending on the Tier of soil. Silver will be relatively common find for your mining Gems, on average you will get 200 Silver after fully mining 8 Plots of Land. Gold on the other hand, will be quite rare! On average, one piece of Gold will be found in every 50 Plots of land!

How rare are Gems?
Like Silver and Gold, Gems can be found while mining. Each Block of Land will have a specific drop rate depending on its tier. The Levels of Gems have different drop rates per tier. The probabilities are constant for the particular Grade on a newly found Gem, regardless of the tier of the Block of Land in which it is found. The types of Gems, Amethyst, Opal, etc all have the same probability. Not all Gem types will be available at launch.

What are Artifacts? How rare are they?
Artifacts are some of the most powerful items in the game. They do a wide range of things to boost your gems abilities. Some may even lower the number of silver or gold needed to upgrade. They could even create items for you!

Artifacts will come in all shapes and sizes, and will do tons of unique things to help you become more powerful! Some of them will even be real life items that we will ship to you, like an acrylic painting on canvas of a Gem!!!**

At the initial launch the Artifacts you will receive will be temporary Artifacts tokens. They are just a placeholder while we work on finishing the whole artifact system. Once that is done, you will be able to turn in your temporary Artifacts and receive real, fully functioning Artifacts!

Artifacts are the 3rd rarest item in the game, behind Keys and Gold.

How do Keys work? How rare are they?
Once a Chest is ready to be opened, players will send their Keys to the Chest, and then it will pick a winner after a certain amount of time. All Keys are returned after a winner is picked, even the winning Key! See "What is this talk of ETH in Chests!?!?" for more info.

As for how rare are they? Well they are by far the most rare item in the whole game. On average, 1 key will be found every 450 whole Plots mined!!! They can only be found at the deepest parts of Plots, in Obsidian, or the Bottom of Plot Geode!

What is this talk of ETH in Chests!?!?
There are 2 main kinds of Chests, Gemstone Chests, and the World Chest.

Gemstone Chests - Are each filled with 10 ETH. They get filled by taking 20% of each Plot of Land bought, and also 1% of every sale from the Market. 2,000 ETH will go to Gemstone Chests just from the Plots of Land percentage. There is no limit to the number of Gemstone Chests that can be created. Once 10 ETH is stored from the previously mentioned ETH sources a Gemstone Chest is created. The Chest will have a 1 week timer, during which it will accept Keys from players. After the 1 week timer is finished one of the submitted Keys will open the Chest. All Keys are returned to players, even the Key that opened the chest.

World Chest - There is only one World Chest, and it will be filled with 500 ETH! It is filled with 5% of each Plot of Land sold. Once the last Plot of Land in the world is bought a one month timer will be started. During that time the World Chest will accept Keys from players. After that 1 month timer is over one of the submitted Keys will open the World Chest!.
